2010 Czech Trip
by Charlie Brackett
I am writing this in Atlanta's Hartsfield Airport, waiting for Delta's flight to Amsterdam. My destination, if the Lord wills, is Prague by air and then Brno in the Czech Republic by bus. I am filled with gratitude to the Czech brethren for graciously providing the opportunity; to the North Terrace church of Christ in Chattanooga and a few individuals who have generously provided the funds; to my wife, Maria, who uncomplainingly manages alone to keep things together at home while I am on the other side of the world (this time for five weeks - boy, do I miss her!); and to our Lord whose cause for the souls of men is so compelling as to move all of us to stretch ourselves. We are richly blessed, and humbled by His goodness.
This trip, several public lectures have been scheduled in four Czech cities: Brno, Ceske Budjeovice, Litomysl and Prague. And, there will be opportunities to worship with and teach and encourage Czech brethren in different churches, whom I have watched grow in faith over the years, and for whom I have grown in love and respect.
We are planning a new approach toward those outside the body of Christ. In two cities - Litomysl and Brno - advertisements have been placed inviting English speaking Czechs to attend a four night series on the Whole of Man. Each night we will present the four aspects of humankind: Physical, Mental, Emotional and Spiritual, respectively, with opportunities to discuss the subject matter presented. Our purpose will be to show that we are here because God created us for His purpose, that He communicated His will to us in the Bible, that our failure to keep our thoughts and emotions in line with the Lord's instructions cause sin in our lives, and that there is a glorious solution in the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. Please pray with me that our Czech brethren's advertisements will reach those whose hearts are right and that our joint efforts will produce fruit to the glory of God.
As I did last year, I plan to send out by email a brief, daily report of my activities. Two or three paragraphs in length, these reports will include a picture or two of the people, places and activities that will occupy my time. Previously, I sent these to my own family and the family at the North Terrace Church. Though receiving a daily message in your inbox can be a bit much, the majority of comments I received were favorable. Time and Internet access permitting, I will do the same this year, but on a broader scale. Lord willing, I will send to all on my newsletter mailing list. If you received this newsletter, you will also receive my daily reports... unless, of course, you prefer to opt out. If you would rather not receive the reports, click here. If you would like to unsubscribe to my newsletter, go here. If you would rather not receive either one, please accept my apology for the intrusion and tell me here.
I am excited about the possibilities of the next few weeks - encouraging brethren and reaching out to the lost. Past experience teaches that baptisms are few in this field of labor. Still, we will sow the seed with enthusiasm and a constant prayer that His word will reach honest hearts so that our loving God can give the increase. Please pray with me to this end.
